Track Name: No Simple Truths
On a summer’s day when the air was thick, the sky was on fire and the sun was setting. I didn’t feel the Lord speak down with burning breath, but through the heavy heat, I painted words that he might be saying. He’d say, “Son, don’t you see that I am ‘The One True Way?’ I’m ‘The Catch-All Answer’ and ‘The Easy Understanding.’” But, I’ve never witnessed God. I think that minds play tricks. No, I can’t support a Savior without proof that he exists. I mean no disrespect. You know, I’m all about the love but I just don’t understand an all-knowing Father from above. Tell me, do you believe in Zeus or dragons? Tell me, without commands to love thy neighbor, would you turn and stab him? There are no simple truths. There are no simple truths. Do you get it now that I’ve said it? A phrase so stubborn, oxymoronic, I’ve put my faith into. ‘Cause, through a splattered mirror, I’m seeing more grey: less of that color, those divisions, that transparency. I have found there are not only two sides. I have found there’s a blur to most lines. There is context, perspective. What if taking sides is where we lose? ‘Cause, all we know is that we don’t know, but we’ll act upon the info we’re privy to. There are no simple truths. There are no simple truths. It’s like saying a stone is standing still, while the Earth is spinning ‘round. Like saying a stone doesn’t move while its atoms bounce about. It’s like saying that crime is the same for the rich and the poor. Like saying, “America the free,” no matter where you’re born. There are no simple truths. There are no simple truths.
