Jimmy Paid the Price

lyrics

I know. I get it. They didn’t dress it up much. Concrete floors and a graffiti backdrop. And, those in-stores were straight up punk shows and they happened every week. There were rumors of an unsavory nature. And, they could really draw those kids that didn’t bathe. Way back then who had heard of Conor Oberst or those stars mistaken for planes. Jimmy paid the price. Yeah. Jimmy paid the price and put up a parking lot. And, you might say, “Who’s Jimmy?” Jimmy’s your neighbor. “Well, we were here first, and Jimmy came later.” But, he’s the greater and you’re the lesser. Yeah. Jim’s an owner and you’ve got a lessor. Well, let’s say Jimmy is a corporation. Let’s say Jimmy is a chain. Let’s say Jimmy didn’t like the punks that lingered and scared the middle class away. Well, Jimmy paid the price. Yeah. Jimmy paid the price and put up a parking lot. Jimmy paid the price. Yeah. Jimmy paid the price and put up a parking lot. And, I’m not saying it was wrong. And, I’m not saying it was right. But, I’ll say that it took something special, a formative site, a pocket of soul and tore it right out of our lives.
